Women's Tailoring & Dressmaking in Ko Samui
Tailored suits, dresses and made-to-measure pieces, cut to your shape — elegant, comfortable, and unmistakably yours.
Great tailoring isn't only for menswear. We make tailored suits, dresses and separates to measure for women — cut to your shape, in fabrics chosen for the climate and the occasion.
From a sharp trouser suit to an occasion dress, everything is fitted properly so it moves with you and looks considered, not off-the-peg.
What we offer
Tailored suits
Trouser and skirt suits cut to your figure for work, events or travel.
Dressmaking
Occasion and everyday dresses made to measure in fabrics you choose.
Fabric for the climate
Linen, light wool and breathable blends that stay elegant in the heat.
A real fit
Measured and fitted to you — the difference you feel the moment you put it on.
What we make, and in what cloth
What we make divides into two crafts before it divides into garments, because tailoring and dressmaking solve different problems and are not the same skill.
Tailoring and dressmaking are different crafts
Worth separating, because they solve different problems — and because a good dressmaker and a good tailor are not automatically the same person. Tailoring builds structure — a jacket with canvas, shoulder shape and a defined line. Dressmaking works with drape and the way soft cloth falls on the body. A tailored trouser suit and a bias-cut silk dress require different hands, different interfacings and different fitting logic. We do both, and it is worth telling us which you are after in the first conversation.
What we make
We make four things to measure — tailored suits, dresses, separates, and copies or restyles of pieces you already own.
Tailored suits
Trouser suits and skirt suits cut to your figure. The fitting points that matter most are the bust dart placement, the waist suppression and the shoulder — get those right and the jacket does the rest. For this climate, a half-lined or unlined jacket in tropical-weight wool or a wool-linen blend is far more wearable than a fully lined one, and looks no less sharp.
Dresses
Occasion dresses, everyday dresses, and pieces for weddings where you are a guest rather than the bride. Length, neckline, sleeve and how much structure the bodice carries are all yours to choose. If you have a photograph of something you like, bring it — it communicates far faster than adjectives.
Separates
Trousers, skirts, blouses and jackets made individually. Trousers are the single most common request from women who have given up finding a pair that fits both the waist and the hip, which off-the-peg sizing rarely reconciles.
Copies and restyles
Bring a garment you love that is wearing out and we can make a fresh version in new cloth. Bring something that no longer suits you and we can often restyle it — lengths changed, a bodice reshaped, an inherited piece brought into a current silhouette.
Fabric, for heat and for photographs
The same climate rules apply as in menswear, with more options. Linen for daytime and garden events. Cotton voile and lawn for dresses that need to move. Tropical-weight wool for anything structured. Silk and silk blends for evening — beautiful in photographs, though pure silk shows perspiration, so a silk-blend or a lined-but-breathable construction is usually the wiser choice for an outdoor ceremony at 4pm.
What to avoid is the same short list: heavy synthetics, dense linings, and anything that looks crisp on the roll because it has been chemically finished.
How it works
It works as menswear does, with one more fitting: there is more shaping through the body and less tolerance for approximation.
Fittings, and how many to expect
Usually one to two, sometimes three for a structured dress or a suit. Women's tailoring generally needs one more fitting than menswear, because there is more shaping through the body and less tolerance for approximation. Bring the underwear and the shoes you intend to wear with the finished piece — both change the fit more than most people expect, and a strapless bodice fitted over the wrong bra will never sit correctly afterwards.
For an event with a date
Tell us the date first. A dress for a wedding you are attending next Thursday is a different brief from one for a party in six weeks, and knowing which decides the cloth, the construction and how many fittings we plan. If you are here on a short trip, come in on your first or second day — see same-day and express tailoring for realistic timelines per garment.
Your pattern is kept
Once we have cut for you, your pattern and measurements stay on file, so a second dress or another pair of trousers can be ordered later and shipped to you wherever you are. Plenty of clients are measured on holiday and buy remotely afterwards.

Common questions
Do you tailor for women as well as men?
Yes. Women's tailoring and dressmaking are a full part of what Unique Custom Tailor does in Fisherman's Village, Bophut, not an afterthought to the menswear. We make tailored suits, jackets, trousers, skirts and dresses to measure, and we also alter and restyle pieces you already own. Our gallery includes women's suits and dresses made in the shop. Whether you want a structured work suit, an outfit for a wedding or a dress for an evening event, we will measure you properly and cut to your shape rather than adjusting a standard block.
Can you make an outfit for a specific event?
Yes, and it is worth telling us the occasion, the venue and the time of day at the first conversation. An outfit for a beach wedding at noon and one for an evening reception call for different cloth entirely, and the right weight matters more in this climate than the colour does. Bring a photo of what you have in mind, or the invitation and the dress code, and we will suggest fabrics and a silhouette that work for the event and the heat. Give us as much notice as you can so there is room for fittings.
Can you copy or restyle something I already own?
Often yes, and it is one of the most satisfying things we do. Bring in a dress, jacket or pair of trousers that fits you perfectly and we can use it as the reference for a new piece in a fabric you choose. We can also restyle garments you already own: changing a neckline, reshaping a silhouette, shortening or lengthening, or taking a piece in after a change in size. Bring the garment to the shop so we can see the construction and tell you honestly what is achievable before you commit.
Do you make dresses as well as suits?
Yes, dressmaking is part of the service, from simple summer dresses in cotton and linen through to more structured occasion wear and evening dresses. We measure and fit rather than sizing from a chart, which matters most on close-fitting pieces where a standard size is rarely right in every dimension at once. If you have a picture of a style you like, bring it: working from a reference image is usually quicker and clearer than describing a shape in words. We will tell you honestly how the design will behave in the fabric you have chosen.
What fabrics do you recommend for the Samui climate?
For daytime in Samui heat, linen and lightweight cotton are hard to beat, as both breathe and feel comfortable through a long, humid day. Linen creases by nature, which is part of its look. For tailored jackets and work suits, tropical-weight wool holds a sharper line while still allowing air through. For evening and occasion wear, silks and lighter blends drape well without the weight of conventional formal cloth. We keep the bolts in the shop so you can see and feel them in daylight before deciding, which is far more useful than a swatch photo.
Can you come to my hotel or villa for a fitting?
Yes. We offer free hotel and villa pickup and in-home consultations anywhere on Ko Samui, including Chaweng, Lamai, Maenam and Choeng Mon, and we bring the fabric books with us, so measuring and fabric selection can happen where you are staying. Many clients prefer this for dress fittings, and it saves you two taxi journeys across the island. Message us on WhatsApp with where you are staying and a time that suits you. If you would rather come to us, the shop is open every day from 10:00 to 23:00.
How long does a women's tailored outfit take?
Plan on a similar timeline to a suit, which is a few days with two or three fittings, and longer for a gown with structure or hand finishing. A simple dress or a pair of trousers can move faster. The honest answer depends on what you are asking for, so tell us your departure date at the first visit and we will say plainly whether it is realistic before you commit, rather than discovering it late.
Can you make matching outfits for a group?
Yes, and it is common for weddings and family events. We can cut several outfits from the same cloth so the colour matches exactly across them, which is harder than it sounds once dye lots differ. Group fittings are easier to coordinate when everyone is measured in the same visit, and if the group is spread across hotels we will come to you rather than asking eight people to travel to Bophut.
