Clothing Alterations & Repairs in Ko Samui

The fastest way to a better wardrobe is often the clothes you already own. We take in, let out, shorten, restyle and repair — by hand, with the same care we give a bespoke suit.

Most alterations are done the same day, so you can drop off and collect within your trip.

What we alter

What can be altered — and what cannot

Honesty here saves everyone time. Some alterations are routine; some are possible but expensive; a few are simply not worth doing, and a tailor who does not tell you that is taking your money.

Straightforward

• Trouser hems and taper — length, leg width, break. Almost always same day.
• Waistbands — most trousers carry an inlay at the centre back seam, usually good for an inch or two either way.
• Jacket sleeve length — shortened or lengthened, from the cuff or the shoulder depending on the buttons.
• Jacket waist — taking in the side seams to remove excess through the body.
• Dress and skirt adjustments — hems, waist, bust darts, straps.
• Shirt bodies — taking in a billowing back, shortening sleeves.

Possible, but real work

• Jacket shoulders — the sleeve must come off and go back on. Doable, skilled, not cheap, and worth it only on a garment you love.
• Letting out beyond the inlay — limited by how much seam allowance the maker left. Fast fashion typically leaves almost none.
• Re-cutting a jacket chest or lapel — occasionally worthwhile on a fine garment, rarely otherwise.

Not worth doing

Fused jackets that have started to bubble, garments where the cloth has worn thin at the seat or elbow, and anything where the alteration would cost more than the piece is worth to you. We will say so before we start rather than after.

Bring the shoes

The most common cause of a hem being wrong is being measured in flip-flops and worn with dress shoes. Bring the shoes you will actually wear the trousers with, and if it is a dress, bring the heels. Two centimetres of heel changes the hem by two centimetres.

Repairs

Linings that have split, zips that have failed, seams that have opened, moth damage, a torn pocket bag, a button that keeps coming off because the shank was never right. Most of these are quick, and most of them are the difference between a favourite jacket living in the wardrobe and living on you.

Humidity is the quiet enemy here — it degrades linings and adhesives faster than a temperate climate does, which is why the inside of a jacket usually fails before the outside. A relined jacket in good cloth is often a better garment than a new one at the same price.

Restyling: making an old garment current

Lapels narrowed, trousers tapered and shortened to a modern break, a boxy jacket brought closer to the body, a long skirt reshaped. Inherited and vintage pieces are often made from cloth you simply cannot buy at that price today; putting a 1980s suit into a current silhouette is one of the more satisfying things we do.

Anything, from anywhere

You do not need to have bought it here. Bring in something from a high street chain, a designer piece, a suit made by another tailor, or a dress bought online that arrived a size out. We treat it with the same care as our own work.

Your measurements stay on file

Once we have altered or made for you, your measurements are kept. That has two practical benefits. If you send us a garment later, we already know your shape. And if you want to re-order from measurements from abroad — another shirt, another pair of trousers, a second suit in a different cloth — we can cut from your existing pattern and arrange worldwide shipping, with a couple of measurements confirmed first since bodies change.

Ask what an alteration costs before you leave it

To find out what an alteration costs, ask when you drop the piece in rather than when you collect it. We quote once we have the garment in hand, because what a seam will give is something you have to see. If the work would cost more than the piece is worth, we will say so instead of taking it on. Timing and drop-off

Most alterations are done the same day; bring pieces in early and we will confirm before you leave. We are in Fisherman's Village, Bophut, open daily 10:00–23:00, so an evening drop-off is fine. If you are staying elsewhere on the island we can collect and return with the same-day service where the timing allows.

What decides the timing is how far into the garment the work goes. Taking in a waist or shortening a hem is usually a matter of hours. Moving a shoulder, or reshaping a jacket through the body, needs longer, because the piece has to come apart and be pressed back into shape afterwards. Tell us your departure date when you drop the garment off rather than when you collect it — if something cannot be done properly in the time you have, we would rather say so than hand you a rushed job.
